Part 5

Moro, Bolsonaro and the Federal Police

The Lava Jato judge became a minister under Jair Bolsonaro, left accusing the president of interfering in the Federal Police and, two years later, went back to supporting him. Here are the statements from each moment, the documents and what the courts decided.

Short answer: Moro accepted the Ministry of Justice on November 1, 2018 and left the post on April 24, 2020 accusing Bolsonaro of wanting to interfere in the Federal Police; the STF opened Inquiry 4831 to look into the accusation. In October 2022 Moro supported Bolsonaro in the runoff and, in 2026, joined the PL and asked for votes for Flávio Bolsonaro. According to the latest report found (April 2026), the inquiry remained open.

The “rachadinha” investigation in Flávio Bolsonaro's office was conducted by the Rio de Janeiro State Public Prosecutor's Office, in the state courts. It is not the same as the Federal Police inquiries. Any link between the episodes appears here only when documented, with the source.
